History

The history of the iLink company began in 1979, when the information computing center of VENTSPILS TRADING PORT was founded. The teleprocessing network Cics was deployed in the port area, which served the tasks implemented by DBVS ADABAS.

In 1993, as a result of the reorganization of the port, the services of the AVS (automated control systems) department also began to be used by other companies: KALIJA PARKS, VenOil (later Ventbunkers), and various types of assistance were provided to state companies (border guard, police and others).

In 1989, a local network was created and the first server with the Novell operating system was installed. Keeping up with the development of information technology, the network was significantly expanded in 1996. Territorially remote networks of Port Management and transshipment districts were combined, thus the number of computers combined into a single computer network exceeded 100 units. The created computer network united the Business Center, Port Authority, Import District Administration, Export District Administration, VTE Administration, “PORT FLOTE”, “MINERAL-TRANS-SERVISS”, “KALIJA PARKS”, “FERROTRANS”. The total number of computers exceeded 200. The network operates 12 servers running Windows Server 2000 and 2003, Novell and Linux systems.

In 1996, the AVS department was transformed into the IT department. The IT department was an independent structural unit with its own budget and execution plan. The IT department was responsible for the supply, installation, and repair of IT equipment, as well as the creation of specialized IT solutions.

In 2001, new generation computer equipment and servers were successfully supplied, serviced and installed for several companies. Several specific accounting systems were developed and installed, such as Normētava, Navision Attain, etc.

Since 2002, the company has been implementing an optical cable network construction project to increase data transmission speed between port districts. At the moment, the “iLink” network, with the help of optical cables, ensures the unification and operation of the local networks of companies such as JSC “VENTSPILS TIRDZNIECIBAS OSTA”, JSC “KALIJA PARKS”, JSC “VENTBUNKERS”.

On July 17, 2003 – with the aim of improving the quality of customer service, expanding the range of services and the number of customers, the IT department was separated into an independent company SIA “iLink”. AS “VENTSPILS TIRDZNIECIBAS OSTA” became the main owner and founder of the company. During this time, the number of “iLink” clients increased from 5 to 106, the range and scope of the provided services also expanded.
